The President of the Republic at Narva inspected a parade of Border Guard

President Arnold Rüütel today is at Narva where celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of the formation and the 12th anniversary of the re-foundation of the Estonian Border Guard are taking place.

In the morning, during a service in the Alexander Church of Narva, the flags of the Border Guard were consecrated and, thereafter, the Director General of the Border Guard, Brigadier General Harry Hein, handed them over to the chiefs of the Border Guard institutions.

At 13.00 pm, a parade inspected by the President of the Republic as the Supreme Commander of National Defence began in the Peetri Square. Minister of Internal Affairs Ain Seppik delivered a speech and, together with the Director General of the Border Guard, decorated the best border guards. President Arnold Rüütel with his contribution in the early 1990s to the re-foundation of Estonian Border Guard merited a memorial stone commemorating the foundation of the Remniku Border Guard School.

The President also visited the Estonian House of Narva, just reopened, where he had a talk with the founders of the house - members of the Estonian Society of Narva, the Old-Narva Society and the Alexander parish of Narva.
