The President of the Republic met with the Chairman of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs

President Arnold Rüütel talked with Elmar Brok, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European ParliamentPresident Arnold Rüütel this afternoon at Kadriorg talked with Elmar Brok, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, about the forthcoming enlargement of the European Union.

Rural life and agriculture in Estonia and in the European Union became one of the main subjects of their discussion. The President said that Estonia was interested in developing its rural life in a way guaranteeing its sustainability. According to the Estonian Head of State, it would serve the same purpose if the European Union increased its financial supports to environmental care and organic farming.

Elmar Brok assured that the European Union paid attention to distinctive features of all candidate countries and tried to find solutions suitable to all parties. Mr Brok also spoke with appreciation about our beautiful nature and other prerequisites for developing tourism as an important asset of Estonia.
