The President of the Republic met the new Ambassador of Canada

President Arnold Rüütel received the credentials of the Ambassador of Canada, Robert AndrigoPresident Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received the credentials of the Ambassador of Canada, Robert Andrigo.

Speaking about the recent history, the Ambassador acknowledged Estonia's peaceful and patient work for the restoration and reinforcement of its independence setting an example to all the world. According to him, the Estonians living in Canada also had contributed to the progress of their new homeland. As for the present, Ambassador Andrigo assured that Canada continuously supported Estonia's aspirations to become a member of NATO.

The Estonian Head of State noted that Canada's support to Estonia's accession to NATO was most essential and we appreciated it very much. Receiving the credentials, the President confirmed Estonia's great interest in developing constructive and stable relations with Canada. "The relations between Estonia and Canada in the field of both politics and culture, but particularly of economy definitely need to be developed further," the President expressed his opinion.
