The President of the Republic thanked the Ambassador of Hungary

In recognition of Béla Jávorszky's services, President Rüütel conferred on him the I Class Order of the Cross of Terra MarianaThe Ambassador of Hungary, Béla Jávorszky, today at Kadriorg made his farewell call on President Arnold Rüütel, who thanked the Ambassador for his great contribution to the development of the Estonian-Hungarian relationship over the last six years.

"During your term in office as the Hungarian Ambassador to Estonia the relations between our two nations have been made more diversified and stable. That applies not only to political but also to economic and cultural areas," the President noted. "As an author and translator, you have done a great job in order to present the Hungarian culture in Estonia and the Estonian country, people, and language in Hungary."

In recognition of Béla Jávorszky's services, President Rüütel conferred on him the I Class Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana.

The Ambassador of Hungary Béla Jávorszky and the President RüütelThe Ambassador assured in his word of thanks that the years spent in Estonia had been to him a very rich time: "I can regard it as a privilege or an act of providence that I was representing my country in those very days when Estonia restored its independence. And later on, I was able to share in those great changes which in the course of ten years have taken place here."

As the Ambassador of Hungary to Estonia, Béla Jávorszky in the years 1991-1994 was residing in Helsinki, and more recently, from 1999 to 2002, worked in the same position in Tallinn.

Ambassador Jávorszky promised to give the President of Hungary, Ferenc Mádl, the regards of the Estonian Head of State. He also confirmed that being an adherent of the Finno-Ugrian idea, he had regarded Estonia as his second homeland. The Ambassador said: "You can be sure that I always will remain a friend of Estonia. I have a lot of plans how to present Estonia in Hungary also in future."
