The President of the Republic to make a tour of Lääne-Virumaa

President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel on October 23-24 will make a working visit to the County of Lääne-Virumaa. The President's purpose in making the visit is to see how entrepreneurs and local governments are working together and what are the opportunities of enterprise and professional training in this rural region.

The tour will take the President first to Vajangu, where the local entrepreneurs and voluntary fire brigade are restoring the local village hall. From there, the President together with County Governor Marko Pomerants will head for Tamsalu to attend a debate of Lääne-Virumaa's town and village leaders about the role of local government associations. Thereafter, farmer Mart Lepik will invite the guests to his farmstead, Kaarli by name, offering an opportunity to talk with members of the Väike-Maarja Agricultural Society.

At the Technical College of Lääne-Virumaa at Mõdriku, the President will have a chance to learn what brings young people to this very school. The President also will introduce a lecture by the Vice President of the Bank of Estonia, Andres Sutt, on the implications of world economic depressions on Estonia. In the afternoon of Wednesday, the Head of State is going to visit the forest district of Tudu hit by heavy storms in July 2001. In addition, the President will visit the private limited company "Tender Ehitus" manufacturing log cabins, the fish farming of Põlula and have a meeting with businessmen of Lääne-Virumaa.

Thursday morning, the Head of State and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel will visit artist Riho Hütt in his studio at Rakvere to see his glass works. Thereafter, the President will leave for Sõmeru, where – using the building materials plant "Aeroc" as an example – an overview of the abilities of Estonian private capital and of the co-operation between the enterprise and the rural municipality will be given. At Kunda, they will call at the cement factory, the port and the building site of a planned wood pulp factory.

In the afternoon, the President and Mrs Rüütel will call at the production centre of businessman Oleg Gross. Thereafter, they will visit the multimedia class of the Kadrina Upper Secondary School and stop at the monument to our mother tongue. At Tapa, the President will be provided with an overview of the development of an industrial park and shown the barracks of a military unit. At the Manor of Lasila, the Presidential Couple will be informed about the movement of manor schools.
