The President of the Republic decorated the Ambassador of Lithuania with the Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana03.10.2002
 President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg met with the Ambassador of Lithuania, Rimantas Juozapas Tonkūnas, and thanked him for his great work done in the years 1997-2002 in order to develop the Estonian-Lithuanian relationship.
The Estonian Head of State particularly highlighted the contribution of the Lithuanian Ambassador to the advancement of our cultural exchange and cooperation in the field of education. This is borne out also by the fact that, in the framework of official student exchange, nearly 200 students from Lithuania are presently studying in Estonia.
In acknowledgement of the services of Ambassador Tonkūnas to Estonia, the President decorated him with the I Class Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana.
