The President of the Republic attended a joint exercise of Baltic servicemen
21.09.2002

President Arnold Rüütel today at Tapa greeted the participants in the international field exercise "Baltic Eagle 2002".

Addressing the servicemen at the closing ceremony of the exercise, the Estonian Head of State said that he was very glad to see the military co-operation between the three Baltic States functioning in practice. "Just these day-to-day efforts demanding soldiers' sweat, pain and privation rather than high-sounding declarations will bring us together to the main goal of our security policy – membership of NATO," President Rüütel observed.

In addition to the Baltic states' servicemen, the staff of Denmark's 3rd Jutland Brigade took part in the exercise, the circumstance which as a precedent was especially highlighted by the President, since it had been for the first time that the staff of a NATO member's unit had exercised on Estonian soil.
