The state visit of the President of the Republic to Hungary continues
13.09.2002

President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel accompanied by official, business and press delegations today continued their state visit to the Republic of Hungary by making a journey to Kecskemét.

The guests in the City Hall of Kecskemét met with Mayor Gábor Szécs, who briefed them on the present and past of his city. President Rüütel noted that Kecskemét's interesting past and rapid development nowadays were the reasons why he during the state visit wanted to see just this city. "Zoltàn Kodàly, a great figure of the Hungarian people, whose artistic creation reaches far beyond the limits of national culture was connected with this place here. The Estonian music life, too, has had a share of his music and teaching," the Estonian Head of State said. In addition, he highlighted the fertile co-operation between universities of Estonia and Hungary, among them these of Kecskemét as well. The President voiced hope that in the future our economic ties would be just as close as in the field of higher education already today.

Thereafter, the presidential couple and the delegations visited the Zoltàn Kodàly Music Institute, where they also listened to the composer's arrangements of folk music. Mrs Ingrid Rüütel gave the institute a compact disc with Estonian folk music collected by herself. Before noon, they visited the Museum of Hungarian Folk Art and, in the afternoon, acquainted themselves with rural life at Bugac. In the evening, President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel will host a reception in honour of the President of Hungary, Ferenc Mádl, and Mrs Alma Mádl aboard the ship "Budapest".
