The President of the Republic to visit Hungary

President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel at the invitation of Hungarian President Ferenc Mádl tomorrow, September10, late in the evening, will embark on a state visit to Hungary.

On September 11, in the morning, the official welcoming ceremony will take place in the Lajos Kossuth Square followed by a meeting of the Presidents and persons accompanying them in the building of the Hungarian Parliament. During the meeting, a convention for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and on capital is going to be signed between the Republic of Estonia and the Republic of Hungary.

In the afternoon, President Rüütel will welcome the participants on an Estonian-Hungarian economic forum and meet the Mayor of Budapest, Gàbor Demszky, in the city hall. President Rüütels meeting with the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament, Katalin Szili, is scheduled for the late afternoon. At these meetings, the bilateral relations between Estonia and Hungary, and forthcoming enlargement of the European Union and NATO will be discussed.

Wednesday evening President Ferenc Mádl of Hungary and Mrs Dalma Mádl are going to host a festive dinner in honour of the President of Estonia and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel.

On the second day of the visit, the President will meet with the Prime Minister of Hungary, Péter Medgyessy. Thereafter, the President will travel to Eger where he is going to meet with the Mayor of Eger, Imre Nagy, tour the town and stronghold of Eger.

On Friday, September13, the President will be at Kecskemét and meet with Mayor Gábor Szécs there. The Estonian Head of State also will visit the Zòltan Kodàly Music Institute and the Museum of Hungarian Folk Art.

On Saturday, President Rüütel will continue with his visit to Veszprém, a twin city of Tartu, meeting Mayor Lászlo Dióssy at the city hall and visiting the fortress of Veszprém.

The delegation accompanying the President, made up of Commander of the Defence Forces Vice Admiral Tarmo Kõuts, Secretary of State Aino Lepik von Wirén, County Governor of Rapla Kalle Talviste and others, and the delegation headed by the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Toomas Luman, will return to Tallinn on September 14, in the afternoon. President Rüütel will proceed from Hungary to the World Economic Forum in Salzburg and will be back in Tallinn on September 17.
