The President of the Republic will start talks on the candidacy for a new Auditor General after the Riigikogu's decision on releasing Juhan Parts will be made28.08.2002
The press in the last days has been speculating on candidates for a new Auditor General. The Press Service of the Office of the President confirms that President Arnold Rüütel has not started talks to fill the post of Auditor General since the Riigikogu has not released Juhan Parts from this post yet.
Pursuant to § 78, clause 11) of the Constitution, the President of the Republic shall make proposals to the Riigikogu for appointments to the offices of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Estonia, Auditor General, Legal Chancellor, and Commander or Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces.
To this day, the Riigikogu has not decided to release Juhan Parts.
