The President of the Republic met with heads of constitutional bodies
14.08.2002

President Arnold Rüütel today at the Kadriorg Presidential Palace met with the Legal Chancellor, Allar Jõks, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Uno Lõhmus, and the Acting Auditor General, Chief Auditor Jüri Kõrge.

The participants of the meeting discussed if and how the principle of separation of powers had been realized in Estonia after regaining its independence. They analysed how the state institutions with their delimited jurisdiction had succeeded in working together with the Riigikogu and the Government of the Republic, and in finding democratic solutions to the problems cropped up. They also reasoned if the decisions important to the state in terms of both domestic and foreign policy had been made based on the principle of separation of powers.

In addition, the expediency of creating constitutional court as a separate institution was dealt with at the meeting.
