President of the Republic Held Consultations with Factions of the Riigikogu

Today President Arnold Rüütel talked by phone with representatives of the Riigikogu of how to ensure democratic local elections at the designated time.
The President discussed with the representatives the position which pursuant to the constitution and the ruling of the National Court of 15 July should allow uniform approach to citizens election alliances at the elections on 20 October 2002. The consultations will continue in the factions of the Riigikogu.
Last night the head of state discussed the issue with Prime Minister Kallas and chairman of the coalition council Edgar Savisaar.
