Mrs Ingrid Rüütel is the patron of Körber's 185th anniversary celebrations
20.06.2002

Mrs Ingrid Rüütel this afternoon attended the festive event on the occasion of the 185th anniversary of Martin Körber in the conference hall of the National Library.

Mrs Rüütel, being at the same time the patron of the anniversary celebrations, delivered a lecture entitled "Marin Körber as a glorifier of home in his time and throughout the times" dealing with the Estonians' fondness for singing and Martin Körber's role in developing the Estonian choral culture. According to Ingrid Rüütel, singing was not only a pastime but also a ritual – an artistic and emotional instrument of creating, strengthening and expressing togetherness and identity. Körber with his songs brought into Estonian culture new directions, new poetic patterns, new intellectuality, and a new kind of patriotic mentality strongly connected with the Christian values.

The anniversary celebrations will continue at 18.00 pm with a concert at the Niguliste Museum-Concert Hall and thereafter, at 20.00 pm, in the Winter Garden of Estonia with the concert-performance “Anseküla koori aastapidu 1864” ("The Annual Party of Anseküla's Chorus in 1864"), the mixed chorus of people of Saaremaa living in Tallinn performing.
