The President of the Republic is on the island of Saaremaa16.06.2002
In order to commemorate those deported from his native island President Arnold Rüütel today attended a divine service in the Laurentius Church of Kuressaare.
The Memorial Service was conducted by Jaan Tammsalu, the late priest of the Church of Kuressaare, and Anti Toplaan, the present priest of the named church. They prayed blessing for the Republic of Estonia, its people and President.
Yesterday evening, the Rotary Club of Saaremaa, just having come to the age of 10, nominated the President of the Republic its honorary member. Ten years ago, the then Head of State, Arnold Rüütel, took part in founding a Rotary club on his native island.
