The President of the Republic met with Bill Clinton

President Arnold Rüütel this morning at Kadriorg received Bill Clinton, former President of the United States of America.

President Arnold Rüütel briefed the guest on Estonia's aspirations and accomplishments highlighting restructuring of economy and success in information technology. Our Head of State assured that a reliable business environment had been created in Estonia.

Ex-President Clinton recognized Estonia's successes in economy and in preparations for joining the European Union and NATO. He confirmed that her wife had best memories of her visit to Estonia. "Estonia is one of her favourite places and, therefore, she is just envious of me that she has to work in Washington now, while I am here," Mr Clinton said.

He encouraged Estonia to share with other transition countries its experience of reorganizing economy, and to offer other countries its good possibilities of channelling goods flows through Estonia. Bill Clinton also voiced his satisfaction that his home country, the United States, had supported Estonia and the other Baltic States in their efforts. He assured that he was continuously willing to give Estonia his assistance.
