The President's cultural prizes were handed over

On May 20, the Board of the President's Cultural Foundation decided to bestow the Young Artist Prize, founded by entrepreneur Toomas Luman, for high professional level on composer Tõnu Kõrvits. Account was also taken of prestigious performances of his works in Paris, Copenhagen, Montreal, Lüneburg and in many other places. The prize equals to 40,000 Estonian kroons.

Folk musician Krista Sildoja earned a prize of the President's Cultural Foundation through her activities as a teacher of the Viljandi Cultural College, an advocate of its Chair of Folk Music, a researcher of folk music and a publisher. Krista Sildoja also is an outstanding performer of folk music on violin and hiiu-rootsi zither. Her prize equalled to 30,000 Estonian kroons.

Handing over the prizes, Mrs Ingrid Rüütel expressed her delight that ever more new top-level composers and musician are emerging in Estonia and that their artistic activities are promoted by our own entrepreneurs.
