The President of the Republic thanked blood donors
22.05.2002

President Arnold Rüütel paid tribute to the Estonian blood donors. On the occasion of the World Blood Donation Day, the Head of State addressed to the blood donors his words of thanks.

"A self-sacrificing heart is needed to save lives at the cost of even giving up one's own life. Unfortunately, in times where selflessly noble demeanour is surprising, care for fellow citizens and awe of life also are surprising. But fortunately, helpfulness and togetherness have not completely disappeared from Estonia. Every year, this is borne out by these 30 000 people who come to the aid of those in need of donor blood. Their noble demeanour deserves our deepest respect and gratitude," the President appreciated them.

On the Independence day, the President of the Republic thanked twelve blood donors by conferring on them high state decorations. Ada Hurt, Nadežda Jürgenson, Rita Niinemäe, Ants Reinart, Hilme Tamman and Karl Täht merited the IV Class Order of the Estonian Red Cross. The blood donors Vladimir Ahermaa, Leida Laan, Toivo Mäelt, Lev Rattšek, Voldemar Savva and Kalle Tammsaar received from the President the V Class Order of the Estonian Red Cross.
