The President of the Republic congratulated Viljandi Cultural College

President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel this afternoon attended the ceremony on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Viljandi Cultural College, where they thanked the family of the rapidly developing school for the promotion of the Estonian culture.

''You have protected, developed and promoted this valuable phenomenon: our own culture.You always have stood up for the principle that culture and education are not the share of the chosen few only. Our Estonian cultural life belongs to us all and depends on us all,'' the Head of State emphasized in his congratulatory address.

Before going to Viljandi, President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel visited Halliste. Next week, it will be seven years since the day when Arnold Rüütel laid the foundation stone of the building of the Halliste Basic School. And so, today this event was called to mind together with Kalev Raave, the former priest of Halliste, and local residents.

President Arnold Rüütel today at Viljandi also met the County Governor, Helir-Valdor Seeder.
