The President of the Republic concluded the inspection of the border
08.05.2002

President Arnold Rüütel this morning, after having visited the border point of Murati, concluded his inspection-tour along the eastern and southeastern border of Estonia.

The President appreciated the work of the Estonian Border Guard. "The border of Estonia is guarded well, although occasionally the working conditions are hard and equipment insufficient or outdated. It is quiet on the border, just like it must be on a regular border," the Head of State noted. Further the President highlighted the good collaboration of the border guards with local residents and local governments, and the fact that, on top of controlling and guarding the border, the Border Guard was performing many other vital state functions like rescue operations, environmental protection etc.

The results of the President's inspection-tour of more than two days were summed up by the Director General of the Board of Border Guard, Colonel Harry Hein. The President visited the Border Guard Regions of Ida-Viru, Peipsi and Kagu. Before noon the Head of State will inspect the Kuperjanov Solitary Infantry Battalion and the Combat School of the Defence Forces.
