The President of the Republic attended an event marking the anniversary of St. George's Night's Uprising23.04.2002
President Arnold Rüütel this evening participated in the ceremony and lighting a fire on the occasion of the 659th anniversary of the St. George's Night's Uprising in Jüriöö Park at Sõjamäe.
Accompanied by gun salute, the Fire of Liberty was lit by President of the Republic Arnold Rüütel, Commander of the Defence Forces Vice admiral Tarmo Kõuts, and Chairwoman of the Tallinn City Council Maret Maripuu.
The President of the Republic received the highest decoration awarded by the Jüriöö Park named Jüriöö Täht (The Star of St. George's Night). The President earned the decoration through his contribution to laying out Jüriöö Park.
The President planted an oak tree in Jüriöö Park.
