The President of the Republic met with the Board of the Riigikogu22.04.2002
President Arnold Rüütel today at the Kadriorg Presidential Palace received the Members of the Board of the Riigikogu, Toomas Savi, Peeter Kreitzberg and Tunne Kelam.
At the meeting issues deriving from our accession to the European Union were under discussion: bills and amendments to laws needed in this connection and their timely passing. The Board of the Riigikogu gave an overview of Estonia's vision of the European Parliament going to be reorganized. It was noted that the national interests of small states being duly represented was very important.
It was also noted that there was a need for a more extensive debate to introduce to people the principles of the structure of the European Union.
In addition, Peeter Kreitzberg and Tunne Kelam informed the President about the activities of the Convention on the future of Europe.
