The President of the Republic of Estonia will make a state visit to the Kingdom of Norway

On April 9-11, President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel will pay a state visit to the Kingdom of Norway. On his visit, the President will be accompanied by Commander of the Defence Forces Vice Admiral Tarmo Kõuts, Minister of Economic Affairs Liina Tõnisson, State Secretary Aino Lepik von Wirén, Rector of the Estonian Agricultural University Henn Elmet and a business delegation led by President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Toomas Luman.

The departure from Tallinn to Oslo is set for the late afternoon, April 9.

On Wednesday morning, April 10, in front of the Royal Palace in Oslo, the welcoming ceremony will take place followed by a meeting of the President and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel with King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway. Thereafter President Rüütel will visit the Storting, the Parliament of Norway. He also will meet with the Norwegian Prime Minister, Kjell Magne Bondevik.

In the afternoon at the Nobel Institute, the President will deliver a lecture on the subject ''Regional Co-operation as a Guarantee of Democracy and Security in Europe''. During the state visit, a meeting of Estonian and Norwegian geneticists will take place at the Gaustad Institute in Oslo. President Rüütel will give the closing words of the meeting. The programme of 10th April schedules also the opening words by the President at a Norwegian-Estonian business seminar. In the evening, King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway in the Royal Palace will host a festive dinner in honour of the President of Estonia and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel.

On April 11, the state visit will be continued in Bergen, where the President will visit the Norwegian Institute for Marine Research, the Hanseatic Museum and the Edward Grieg House.

The President of the Republic and the accompanying delegation will return to Tallinn on April 11, in the evening.
