The President of the Republic ended his tour of the County of Võru

The President of the Republic and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel this evening ended their one-day-tour of the County of Võru after having participated in the opening ceremonies of an extension to the Hotel Kubija, of the Rescue Service of the Võru County, and of a new compound of the Border Guard's Southeast Region.

Before that, the President at Väimela had visited the local health centre and the Võrumaa Centre of Vocational Training. Since 1999, vocational training, adults' extended vocational training and retraining, and development activities of the Võru County have been concentrated in the mentioned training centre. Since 2000, the centre offers higher vocational education in the field of woodworking technology and business administration but, in the next years, it is intended to start providing higher vocational education in all the fields of training at the school. The centre, together with local governments and entrepreneurs, also carries through regional development projects.

At the meetings with the President, the high-quality training of the local workforce and offering opportunities for individual development were highlighted as one of the priorities of the County of Võru. Great importance is also being attached to creating a favourable business environment for start-ups and making the information about marketing and investing possibilities available.

In the evening, the President left for Pärnu, where he will meet the County Covernor, other leaders of local governments and farmers tomorrow.
