The President of the Republic will make a tour of Central and South Estonia

On March 25 –28, President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel will be on a tour visiting the County of Jõgeva, Tartu, the County of Võru and Pärnu.

On Monday morning, March 25, the President and Mrs Rüütel will be welcomed by the County Governor of Jõgeva, Margus Oro, at the border of the county. Together they will drive to Põltsamaa to visit the Põltsamaa Felix Ltd. and to tour the castle and the church of Põltsamaa. In the afternoon, the President will make a call on Jaak Krivin, the blacksmith of Lustivere, and meet leaders of the local governments of the Jõgeva County in the premises of the county government. Mrs Ingrid Rüütel will have a meeting with the "Lapiteki" (patchwork-blanket) Society at the Cultural Centre of Põltsamaa.

The President and Mrs Rüütel also will visit the Kiigemetsa school at Siimusti and call at the Werol Factories Ltd. at Painküla. The programme also includes visits to the Plant Breeding Institute of Jõgeva and the Raja Old Believers Monastery in the community of Kasepää, as well as an introduction to the social life in the countryside during a call at Laiuse õletuba (straw-room).

On Tuesday, the President of the Republic at Tartu will meet city leaders Aadu Must and Andrus Ansip, as well as County Governor Jaan Õunapuu and Chairman of the Local Government's Association Aivar Soobi to discuss the problems of regional development.

On Wednesday, March 27, the President and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel will continue their tour in Võru County. In the morning the Head of State will be welcomed by the County Governor of Võru, Mait Klaassen, at the border of Võru County. Thereafter, in the community of Meremäe, the President will participate in a conference to discuss working out a development programme for the remote regions. Mrs Ingrid Rüütel will take part in a roundtable on the present state and future prospects of Setomaa's cultural heritage.

Later in the morning, the President will meet entrepreneurs of the Vastseliina community and, thereafter, visit the community of Haanja and the Võru Juust Ltd. At Väimela, the President will talk the future of vocational training with employees of the Võrumaa Centre of Vocational Training.

The President also will call at the Rescue Service of the Võru County and open a new compound of the Border Guard`s Southeast Region. Alongside with the President, Olympic champion Erki Nool and skier Raul Olle will attend the opening of an extension to the Kubija Hotel.

On Wednesday morning, March 28, the President at Pärnu will meet County Governor Toomas Kivimägi and visit the Rehabilitation Centre Estonia.
