The President of the Republic received from Ambassadors their credentials
21.03.2002

The Ambassador of Yugoslavia, Radoje Z. Zečević, and the Ambassador of India, Om Prakash Gupta, presented to President Arnold Rüütel their credentials at Kadriorg today.

The President welcomed Radoje Zečević as the first Ambassador of Yugoslavia to Estonia. He noted that despite the diplomatic relations between Estonia and Yugoslavia being still fresh we had succeeded in laying foundations for our pleasing co-operation during a short period of only a little over a year. Last week, the first treaty between Estonia and Yugoslavia was signed. The President expressed his hope that, before long, in addition to the co-operation in the field of culture, education and sports, also economic and trade links would be established between our two countries.

Receiving the Ambassador of India, Om Prakash Gupta, President Rüütel recognized the Estonian-Indian relations which, over the last decade, have developed fruitfully and on the basis of mutual respect. India has done a lot in order to present her culture in Estonia and a number of Estonian students have had the chance to continue their training on scholarships from India. The Head of State saw opportunities for co-operation also in the field of information technology and trade.
