Poland is to Mrs Ingrid Rüütel of professional interest
19.03.2002

Mrs Ingrid Rüütel, together with the President ot the Republic on a state visit to Poland, is satisfied with her professional contacts established.

Ingrid Rüütel had an interesting meeting with the spouse of the Polish President, Jolanta Kwaśniewska. She also was very content with the meeting with young Poles, members of the civic action society "Pro Estonia", studying the Estonia language and doing research in the field of our culture. The members of "Pro Estonia" also have visited the region of Setumaa as ethnologists and, on the basis of the material gathered there, published a book in Poland.

Mrs Ingrid Rüütel yesterday had a chance of establishing scientific contacts with researchers being engaged in the same field as she. So, for instance, one of the discussions prompted her to find out more about the national minorities in Poland, in whose language an Eastern-Baltic influence is supposed to be found. In addition, Ingrid Rüütel intends to convey to the Estonian National Museum the offer of co-operation, made by the Warsaw Museum of Ethnography, and their interest in Estonian folklore.

Ingrid Rüütel's lecture at the Warsaw University on the Estonian contemporary folk traditions was met very appreciatively.

Today Ingrid Rüütel will visit the Bialystok Open Air Museum and the Białowieża National Park.
