The President of the Republic had a meeting with the representatives of the Estonian Society in Latvia06.03.2002
President Arnold Rüütel received the representatives of the Estonian Society in Latvia led by Pärja Svarpstina, the Chairwoman of the Board of the Society.
The meeting mostly focused on the ESTO 2004 that is going to take place in Riga. In this connection, also the house built in 1913, which is a property of the Estonian Society, but today in a deplorable state, was discussed. Before the ESTO, the Society will try to appeal to Estonian businessmen to find some resources for renovating the building. As the Society estimated, the six-storey house in the centre of Riga could become an Estonian business, culture, and conference centre. There is also an Estonian school in the building.
