The President of the Republic got the Forselius Medal
01.03.2002

President Arnold Rüütel addressed the participants of the XIII Education Days of the Bengt Gottfried Forselius Society in the Viljandi County today.

In his address, the President said that it is not necessary to make great efforts to find the brand of Estonia, as educated mind has been and could always be our brand-name. "As Jakob Hurt has said, and as we hope ever and again, repeating his words – also a small nation can attain greatness, the greatness of spirit. To attain this goal, Estonian schools have made a great contribution. I thank you for this," the President said, turning to the members of the Forselius Society.

Arnold Rüütel has been the Chairman of the society ever since its establishment in 1989. Now, he has been elected the Chairman of Honour of the Forselius Society.

For his contribution to the promotion of education in Estonia and researches into the history of education, the Head of State received the Society’s highest award – the Forselius Medal.

The Forselius Society, which unites people from the field of education and the oldest schools in Estonia, annually arranges also the Education Days. From 1991, individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the promotion of Estonian schools and preserving the continuity of education, as well as the more outstanding innovators of educational life in Estonia, are awarded the Forselius Medal.
