The President of the Republic had a meeting with the Minister of Education
04.03.2002

President Arnold Rüütel and the Minister of Education Mailis Rand discussed the development problems of the Estonian school system in Kadriorg at noon today.

Both the Head of State and the Minister stated that it is a great loss for the society that about a thousand pupils fail to attend school annually, and that the state is responsible for the fate of those young people. As the Minister said, it is possible to open new municipal or state boarding schools, where children in need of support could continue their studies.

Informing the President of the courseof the reform of higher education., the Minister pointed out that the content and the legal basis of the reform need thorough preparations, so that from this autumn, the so-called 3+2 system could be applied (three years for a Bachelor's degree, and 2 years for a Master's degree).
