The President of the Republic met the Prime Minister of Norway

The President of the Republic met the Prime Minister of Norway Kjell Magne BondevikPresident Arnol Rüütel met the Prime Minister of Norway, Kjell Magne Bondevik, at Kadriorg today.

Prime Minister Bondevik acknowledged the Estonian advances of the recent years and assured that Norway is supporting the accession of the Baltic States to NATO. He underlined the importance of co-operation between Estonia and Norway in regional structures.

During the meeting, they went also into the co-operation between the two countries in the field of conservation and energy industry. President Rüütel deemed joint efforts in protecting the marine environment and developing unified electricity and gas grids of the Baltic States and the Nordic Countries most essential.

The Prime Minister of Norway, amongst other topics, took interest in the development of relations between Estonia and Russia. President Rüütel confirmed that Estonia is interested in good-neighbourly relations and mutually beneficial contacts with all its neighbours including Russia. The Head of State also recognized the Russian participation in combating the international terrorism.

Prime minister Bondevik expressed hope that President Rüütel`s forthcoming state visit to Norway would be most interesting and would further strengthen the relations between our two countries.
