The President of the Republic met the Minister of Economic Affairs27.02.2002
President Arnold Rüütel met the Minister of Economic Affairs, Transport and Communications, Liina Tõnisson, at Kadriorg today.
The Head of State and the Minister talked about issues of energy policy and regional development. The President briefed the Minister on positions of scientists and pundits on the development of energy sector, having come to his knowledge, and announced his intention to treat the future of the Estonian energy industry also before the Riigikogu today.
Minister Tõnisson admitted that the practice of privatization of the power stations hitherto has given us an experience of how affairs must not be conducted. In Minister's opinion, the strategic questions of energy policy should be given an answer already in the near future. The Minister also noted that she was glad to be member of such a government which like the Head of State - gives priority to a regionally balanced development of Estonia.
