The celebrations on the occasion of the 84th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia in Tallinn

At sunrise on the Independence Day, at 07.34 on February 24, the national flag will festively be hoisted on the tower Tall Hermann on the Toompea hill.

At 10.00 am, the President of the Republic will review the parade of the Defence Forces on the Vabaduse Square. The parade will be commanded by the Commander of the Defence Forces, Rear Admiral Tarmo Kõuts, who also will give a speech.

At 11.30 am, the President of the Republic and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel will attend the Independence Day service at St Charles's Church.

At 1.00 pm, Prime Minister Siim Kallas will hand over this year's national awards for science and culture in the Academy of Science' Hall in Toompea.

At 6.00 pm, the festive concert celebrating the 84th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia will begin in the Estonian National Opera House, where President Arnold Rüütel will deliver his Independence Day address.

At the concert, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra as well as the Estonian National Opera's Boys' Choir and the Estonian United Boys' Choir, conducted by Nikolai Aleksejev, will perform Rudolf Tobias' overture "Julius Caesar" and Ludvig van Beethoven's Fantasia for Piano, Choir and Orchestra op. 80. The year 2002 marks the 75th season of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra.

The concert will be followed by a reception in the opera house, hosted by the President of the Republic and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel. The orchestra conducted by Peeter Saul will play at the reception.

The events in celebration of the anniversary will be broadcast by the Estonian TV.
