The President of the Republic received the Ambassador of Latvia

The Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia Edgars Skuja and President Arnold RüütelThe Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Estonia, Edgars Skuja, presented his credentials to President Arnold Rüütel at Kadriorg today.

In his words of welcome the Head of State highlighted the long-standing and manifold co-operation between Estonia and Latvia which helped to restore the independence of our countries and which now, in the very important process of accession to the European Union and NATO, has acquired a new quality. "Success of every single Baltic State in this matter is also a success for the others," the President noted. He expressed hope that the bilateral relations between Latvia and Estonia would get still closer.

Ambassador Skuja professed his firm will to contribute also on his part to the strengthening of the relationship between our two neighbouring nations and, in addition, congratulated President Rüütel, and in his person the whole Estonian people, on the brilliant performance of our skiers at the present Olympic Games.“
