The President of the Republic met with retired officers05.02.2002
President Arnold Rüütel at Kadriorg today received representatives of the Estonian Retired Officers' Association who gave him a table flag of their organization as a present.
This association is unifying officers retired from the Estonian Defence Forces, numbering nearly ninety at present. The association was founded last year to keep up contacts to the defence forces and to let the knowledge of the corps of retired officers contribute to finding solutions to the problems of national defence.
During this day's meeting, the Head of State emphasized the importance of utilizing the knowledge and enthusiasm of retired officers also for the sake of patriotic education of the youth and training the rank and file in the National Defence League. At the meeting, the issue of social guarantees given to the retired officers by state came up as well.
