The President of the Republic carried on political consultations

Today the President of the Republic carried on political consultations with chairmen of the factions of the Riigikogu to form a new government.

As a result of his meetings the Head of State observed that, at present, to the government coalition to be formed there were two likely parties: the Center Party and the Reform Party, which confirmed that they had started talks on conditions of the coalition agreement. The named parties promised to specify their common keynote program by the end of this week. The representatives of the People's Union of Estonia, the Moderates and the United People's Party of Estonia expressed their willingness to support the government coalition being created.

During the consultations, President Rüütel voiced his desire that the coalition agreement to be reached built on the present priorities of the Estonian foreign policy – the accession to the European Union and NATO, and our preferences in domestic policy be striving for social stability.
