The President of the Republic received the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea
20.12.2001

The Ambassador of Korea Mr Lee Young-gil and president Arnold RüütelPresident Arnold Rüütel received today in the Kadriorg Presidential Palace the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Korea Mr Lee Young-gil who came to present his credentials.

At the meeting the relations between Estonia and Korea were under discussion. The President and the Ambassador agreed that although the diplomatic relations between our countries were established not earlier than ten years ago, we had every reason to be pleased with our cultural and trade relations being rather close.

The President said that quite a few Estonians had undertaken professional in-service training in the Republic of Korea, and since a lively interest in Korean culture and language had become evident in Estonia, it was presently possible to study them in Estonia as well.

According to the President, prerequisites for the further development of cultural, educational, and economic ties between Estonia and Korea were there, and quite considerable mutual interest could be observed on both sides. ''Relying on our previous relations, we can be sure that our co-operation will make steady progress in future too,'' the President said.

In addition to the abovementioned topics possibilities of co-operation in the field of transit were discussed at the meeting too.
