The President of the Republic received the Ambassadors of Romania and Egypt13.12.2001
President Arnold Rüütel received today in the Kadriorg Presidential Palace the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Romania Mr Neagu Udroiu who came to present his credentials.
At the meeting the Ambassador gave to the President as a present a copy of the publication ''80 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Romania and the Republic of Estonia''. Estonia and Romania celebrate this year already the eightieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. According to the President both countries have had to live through quite many undesirable experiences during the years passed since then but this day, accounting our new common goals we were closer than ever before. President termed as the common goals of Estonia and Romania the accession to the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance and added that for the sake of achieving those aims, Estonia and Romania could support and while exchanging experiences help each other.
The President acknowledged Romania's activities during its presidency in the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
The Ambassador gave to President Rüütel from the President of Romania his greetings and an invitation to pay a working visit to Romania.
Today President Rüütel also received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt Mr Samah Sotouhi who came to present his credentials.
The President noted that the relations between the two countries were good but the business contacts had to be strengthened and the knowledge of one another to be improved. They observed jointly that the trade and cultural relations between Estonia and Egypt definitely needed deepening and strengthening.
At the meeting following the presentation of the credentials, in addition to other topics the conflict in Near East and ways for its solution were discussed. According to the President Estonia valued highly the constructive steps Egypt has taken to secure peace and stability in Near East and in the northern part of Africa. The president emphasized that activities of this kind were at present particularly important.
