11.12.2001

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria Mr Jakub Forst-Battaglia and President Arnold RüütelToday President Arnold Rüütel received in the Kadriorg Presidental Palace the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria Mr Jakub Forst-Battaglia who came to present his credentials.

In his address to the Ambassador the President acknowledged the Austrian activities during its presidency in the OSCE in 2000, especially its contribution to working out the strategy of withdrawing the OSCE missions and said that this day“s case of Estonia proved the relevance of this strategy.

The focal point of the meeting were the bilateral relations between Estonia and Austria. According to the President Estonian economic ties with Austria were developing steadily but were still relatively modest and thus, we needed to pay more attention to the promotion of business contacts. We would be delighted to see Austrian investments in Estonia increasing. “So far business activities have been concentrated in major centres of Estonia but we shall do our best to interest investors in other regions too,” the President said.

The Ambassador noted that in addition, he could see possibilities for co-operation in the field of science and culture as well. He highlighted the importance of continuing the political dialog between Estonia and Austria, and assured that Austria was supporting Estonian choices in respect of its security policy expecting this to contribute to the security and stability in the region.

President Arnold Rüütel handed to Ambassador Jakub Forst-Battaglia an invitation to the President of Austria Thomas Klestil, LL.D.
