President of the Republic met with chairmen of factions of the Riigikogu05.12.2001
Today President of the Republic Arnold Rüütel met with chairmen of factions of the Riigikogu in order to discuss once more the Act Amending §§ 2, 2¹ and 26 in the Riigikogu Election Act and §§ 3, 3¹ and 26 in the Local Government Council Election Act.
Politicians presented their positions, which coincided with the positions underlined already in the Riigikogu on the ideology of the amendment so widely reflected in the society,
Mrs. Mall Gramberg, Head of the Legal Department in the Office of the President of the Republic of Estonia, provided a survey of the legislative treatment of the topic over the recent years. She also admitted that the text of the Act to be proclaimed by the Head of State was not in conflict with the Constitution.
During the exchange of opinions also the Local Government Organisation Act Amendment Act, adopted by the Riigikogu yesterday, was touched upon. President Rüütel was interested in other legal possibilities to be implemented for the protection of the Estonian language.
Both the President of the Republic and members of the Riigikogu said jointly that the mutual co-operation of all political forces would be significant in passing essential and sensitive legislation for the Republic of Estonia and the society.
