The President of the Republic had a meeting with the Ambassador of Austria

The President conferred the II Class Order of the Cross of St Mary's Land on Michael Miess.President Arnold Rüütel received Michael Miess, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria, who made a farewell visit to the President of the Republic, in Kadriorg today. Ambassador Miess has represented Austria in Estonia from October 1997.

President Rüütel thanked Ambassador Miess for his work and recognized his contribution in introducing Austria to Estonians and Estonia to Austrians. The President highlighted the opening of the Austrian Embassy in Tallinn, the Ambassador's appearances on television, several cultural events and the development of contacts in creative circles – those are just a few of the Ambassador's accomplishments during his term in Estonia. The President also mentioned the pleasant tradition of Vienna opera balls initiated by the Ambassador in Tallinn.

In recognition of his services to the Republic of Estonia, the President conferred the II Class Order of the Cross of St Mary's Land on Michael Miess.

Expressing his gratitude for the co-operation and the decoration, Ambassador Michael Miess said that the past four years had been most memorable. The diplomat will carry Estonia in his heart as a wonderful country with helpful people, dynamically developing society, picturesque nature and pleasant and friendly relations between people. The Ambassador will continue his career with representing Austria in Ukraine.
