The President of the Republic will go to a state visit to the Republic of Finland16.11.2001
President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel will depart for a two-day state visit to Finland on Tuesday, November 20. On the meetings with Tarja Halonen, the President of the Republic of Finland, Riitta Uosukainen, the Speaker of the Parliament, and Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen, matters related to the enlargement of the EU and NATO will be addressed, as well as economic relations between Estonia and Finland, the environment situation and subjects of education and culture.
On his visit, President Rüütel will be accompanied by the Minister of Economy Henrik Hololei, the Minister of Culture Signe Kivi, the academician Jüri Engelbrecht, the artist Viive Tolli and the business delegation led by Toomas Luman, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
On Tuesday, the President of the Republic of Estonia will meet the Finnish President Tarja Halonen, open an Estonian-Finnish business seminar, and lay a wreath at the Hietaniemi cemetery. Eva Riitta-Siitonen, the Mayor of Helsinki, will host a dinner in honour of the President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel. After that, the President will visit the Parliament and have a meeting with Riitta Uosukainen, the Speaker of the Parliament (Eduskunta).
On Wednesday, November 21, President Rüütel will visit the city of Turku. At the Turku university, the President will deliver a lecture The Choices of Estonia, on the environment strategies of Estonia on the 21st century. The President will visit the Turku Cathedral and the Stick-Tech biotechnology plant.
In the afternoon, the President of the Republic will be back in Helsinki to have a meeting with Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen.
The President of the Republic will be back in Estonia late Wednesday night.
