The President of the Republic participated in the Fight against Terrorism Conference in Warsaw

The President of the Republic participated among 12 heads of state in the Fight against Terrorism Conference in Warsaw today, where, in total, 25 countries of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe and international organisations were represented.
The heads of state and representatives of NATO, EU, OSCE and U.N., gathered in Warsaw, adopted the declaration which condemns international terrorism, confirms the support of the participating countries to the United States of America and its allies in the fight against terrorism and formulates the contribution of that region to securing safety and stability in the world. In addition, a concrete action plan was adopted that will serve as a basis for the co-ordination of the activities of the countries of the region. Participants in the conference had a teleconnection with the President of the U.S.A. George W. Bush who thanked all participants for the support to the U.S.A. and for unity in forming the international coalition against terrorism.
President Rüütel emphasised in his speech that terrorism and international organised crime are closely interconnected having used similar operating patterns and underground networks through the ages. ''Consequently, the countries of Central and Eastern Europe that protect common democratic values have to apply new tactics of behaviour in the fight against drug trafficking, illegal migration, money laundering, corruption and other forms of organised crime,'' stated the President.
According to the President, Estonia is ready to give its contribution to the fight against the democratic ideals of the world, if it is in our power to provide added value to the joint action plans already worked out and being worked out.
