Statement of the Press Adviser of the Office of the President of the Republic
01.11.2001

I am terminating my service as the Press Advisor of the Office of the President of the Republic from today, 1 November 2001. I have been working at that post since 5 January 1998, i.e. three years and ten months, which has been a very long, edifying and instructive period.

I thank President Lennart Meri and President Arnold Rüütel for their confidence in me. I thank all my colleagues in the Kadriorg Presidential Palace and appreciate their excellent teamwork, readiness to think together fast and give assistance, and I venture to say that the Office of the President of the Republic has worked efficiently to consolidate the belief of the Estonian people in the institution of the president and to help to make Estonia more widely known and to improve its image.

I thank all those that have helped to mediate the institution of the president of the republic and the activities, decisions and opinions of presidents Lennart Meri and Arnold Rüütel through the press. I am glad that President Lennart Meri has been a favourite of the press, and giving the name of the enemy of the press to him was useful too in a way, as it afforded an opportunity to learn something. I hope that the press will trust and respect President Arnold Rüütel and will help to make his thoughts and activities known to the people.

I am leaving this post of my own accord and I have promised President Arnold Rüütel to give advice related to that post, if necessary. I can only say so much about my future plans that I will continue to work in the public service of the Republic of Estonia.
