The President of the Republic met the Rural Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu

President Arnold Rüütel received the members of the Rural Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu in the presidential palace of Kadriorg today, and discussed with them the problems of rural life in Estonia in connection with the state budget of 2002 and the sums allocated to the local governments in it.

Regional benefits to the enterprises situated outside Tallinn were discussed, as well as the creation of more infrastructures than before and investments to rural areas all over Estonia. Also the possible increase of land tax was discussed. The President emphasised that it is important to the people and the state of Estonia that people who have been living in the country for generations should not leave because of the increased land tax.
