The President of the Republic met the Ambassador of New Zealand

President Arnold Rüütel received Christopher Butler, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of New Zealand, in Kadriorg today. The Ambassador congratulated Arnold Rüütel upon assuming office.

On the meeting, the President of the Republic and the Ambassador of New Zealand mostly focused on the co-operation in the field of culture, agriculture, and environment protection. President Rüütel assured that Estonians as a small nation and New Zealanders as an island nation understand very well the importance of harmonious and balanced development of nature and human society. Estonians admire the preservation of the Maori ethnic identity throughout the ages, and the strengthening of Maori cultural traditions during the last decade, the President added.

The Estonian Head of State and the Ambassador of New Zealand also talked about the ways to increase tourist exchange between the two countries, and the possibilities for establishing bilateral visa-free movement.
