The President of the Republic had a meeting with Tiit Toomsalu

President Arnold Rüütel today had a meeting with Tiit Toomsalu, a representative of the political parties participating in the Consultative Roundtable of Estonian Political Parties, who forwarded him the congratulations of the Consultative Roundtable on the occasion of his election to the President of the Republic of Estonia.

President Rüütel emphasised that meetings with political parties not represented in the Parliament support the functioning of democracy. Also the idea to establish a Roundtable of Political Parties by the President of the Republic in order to develop dialogue between political parties and find consensus in issues that are important for the state was discussed. Also issues related to next year’s budget were discussed at the meeting, as well as the proceedings of the Court Act in the Riigikogu, the increase of electricity price, and the political situation in Estonia.

The Consultative Roundtable of Estonian Political Parties consists of the Estonian Democratic Labour Party, the Estonian Democratic Party, the Estonian Independence Party, the Estonian Christian People’s Party, the Russian Party in Estonia and the Russian Unity Party.
