The President of the Republic had a meeting with Rear Admiral Tarmo Kõuts, the Commander of the Defence Forces15.10.2001
The President of the Republic Arnold Rüütel had a lunch meeting with Tarmo Kõuts, the Commander of the Defence Forces.
On the meeting, the co-operation between constitutional institutions was discussed, with special focus on the foreign and defence policy priority of Estonia, the accession to the North Atlantic Alliance. The President of the Republic was interested in the current status of the NATO accession debate, and wanted to know to what extent the acts of terrorism against the United States of America and the now started counter-attacks have influenced the positions of NATO member states regarding the enlargement.
The President of the Republic and the Commander of the Defence Forces also discussed the priorities of the Estonian defence forces for this year and next year, and defence co-operation with Latvia, Lithuania, and other partner states.
