The President of the Republic convened the National Defence Council

President Arnold Rüütel convened the National Defence Council today, on his first day in office, to discuss the situation in Estonia on the background of international events. It was jointly stated that the situation is peaceful and that the national structures of Estonia are prepared to act operatively in case of any irregular developments. The President of the Republic was convinced that all the steps taken by the Government of the Republic have been in the right direction.
