07.09.2006

President Arnold Rüütel, today at Kadriorg, received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Henk van der Zwan who presented his Letter of Credentials.

In the words of the President of the Republic, the relationship between Estonia and the Netherlands has been very good and constructive through the years. ''Cooperation and exchange of information has been intensive both in bilateral context as well as in various international issues. This is a normal relationship between two partners. We wish to maintain our good relations and find new possibilities to intensify our contacts,'' the Head of State said.

President Rüütel also noted that the economic cooperation between Estonia and the Netherlands has been developing progressively and our trade volumes have grown steadily year-by-year. ''However, we see many further possibilities in the field of marine transport, transit, ports and ship building, as well as in the high technology field. Estonia is also interested in tourism cooperation, especially in receiving more tourists from the Netherlands,'' the President of the Republic added.

The Ambassador of the Netherlands confirmed that the Netherlands is interested in continuing to work together with Estonia within the framework of international organisations and expressed his wish to contribute to the development of Estonian-Dutch bilateral relations.
