The President of the Republic greeted the learning Estonia
01.09.2006

This morning, President Arnold Rüütel addressed all pupils and students, parents, teachers and educationalists via Estonian Radio, and wished them a happy beginning of the new school year. The same address will be broadcasted by the Estonian Television in the evening.

In his greeting, the President of the Republic encouraged students to find interesting hobbies and great role models for themselves. “Hurry up to use your youth to discover the world in its richness and to test yourself. Look around right here, in your own neighbourhood. You will certainly find people from whom you have a lot to learn,” President Rüütel said.

In the afternoon, the Head of State participated in the celebration of the 240th anniversary of Kõrveküla Basic School and attended the first school day ceremony. President Rüütel was met by Aivar Soop, the Mayor of Tartu Municipality, and the Headmaster of Kõrveküla Basic School Andres Jõger. Before the first school day assembly, the President of the Republic attended the opening ceremony of the freshly renovated schoolhouse, and planted an oak tree next to the school.
